How Selling Websites Can Make You Money Online

July 18th, 2009 by Ed | No Comments | Filed in Selling Website Tips

Selling websites is no longer news on the internet. How much fortune you can amass flipping websites is the big deal today. Many internet entrepreneurs who have foresight have quickly diversified into the selling websites niche and they are making a killing from site flip business. This article discusses briefly the tips and tricks used by successful flippers.

Selling Websites is a Business

If you are planning to go into the business of websites flipping, you need to treat it as such. To that end, register a keyword-rich domain name and build website for it solely to communicate to your prospects from time to time that it is one of your lines of businesses. Prospective buyers will take you more serious when dealing with you.

Build Attractive Websites to Sell

Selling websites fast is like love at first sight. Buyers are wont to be attracted to websites that are pretty to the eyes. From there, they will have the mind to probe other variables that will inform them whether to buy or not. My advice is that you either outsource website design to a professional if you don’t know how to construct one or use easy-to-use website design software.

Use Quality and Unique Content on Website to Sell

Successful site flippers have long discovered that websites and blogs that sell fast are the ones were quality and unique articles are used. Website buyers want to be different and unique in the niche market they wish to pursue. These days it is cheap to outsource article writing. You can get quality articles written with as little as $5 per article. And better if you are good at researching and writing articles yourself.

Monetize the Websites

Selling websites business is all about proving to a buyer how much traffic and revenue it consistently generates now and in the foreseeable future and at a profit too. What this means is that a site that make consistent sales/profits from own product or service, affiliate products and advertising will always have eager buyers more than “plain vanilla” websites.

Drive Quality Traffic to Your Site

Another point to note about successfully selling a website is getting targeted traffic regularly. Yes, website visitors are the people that will deliver on your site objective of making money online. No web visitors, no sales! To this end, you must drive targeted traffic through article marketing, posting in forums, making blog comments, using pay per click (PPC) advertising, social bookmarking, and other creative means.

Think Long Term Rather than Short Term

Majority of beginning site flippers think short term instead of long term. They quickly build website or blog, post PLR articles or public domain content and then list the site for sale at auction. No wonder you see bids and sales at $100 or less. That is not a good option of selling websites. Plan to sell a website after 3 months. You make more money because you would have built a solid foundation in terms of revenue and traffic.

How to Price Website Before Buying or Selling

June 23rd, 2009 by Ed | No Comments | Filed in Selling Website Tips

If you want to master how to price website before you buy or sell, this article will definitely help you. Site flip business owners should have an idea of how much their website is worth before placing it in an auction. This will assist you to reasonably gauge how much to expect from the sale before flipping.

There is various website valuation methods used on the internet based on certain factors. But the most common of these metrics is the net revenue the website is averagely generating per month, the targeted traffic it receives, the age of the domain name/website, the technologies and scripts used in designing the site, the market niche the website is built, and so on.

The only difficulty I know which exist in how to price website is consistency amongst website valuation experts. For instance, as a webmaster, if you take a website to 3-4 valuation experts, you are sure to have 3-4 divergent values with wide margin apart.

To this end, the common saying that the value of a website is only what a prospective buyer is willing and able to pay becomes true.

Knowing how to price website is less cumbersome if your website has started generating monthly revenue. The simple formula is to take the last three months’ average income and multiply it by 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, 18, 24, 30 or 36 months’ income. The number of months is usually agreed between buyer and seller. For example, if I am selling website that earns me:

$200 –March,

$452 –April, and

$320 -May

I can safely price my website thus:

$200 + $452 + $320 = $972

$972/3months average = $324

Then multiply $324 by 5 months’ income to arrive at $1,620. This is the amount I should expect from a prospective buyer.

Where there is problem is when you are valuing a website based on traffic ONLY and NO revenue. The value placed on such websites is always subjective and mainly hinged on qualitative factors rather than quantitative. But you can do this using pay per click (PPC) cost info on your main keywords in the domain name/website.
